Sanpaku eyes and the ideology behind it come from ancien Japanese medecine. The concept revolves around the eyes and where the iris is placed, upwards or downwards.
Sanpaku Eyes (JC) | Sanpaku means “three whites”. The word “San” mean “three”. So what exactly are sanpaku eyes and why is the internet bend on connecting them to Takeoff’s death?
When a person is born, biology implies that the iris must be equally balanced and placed. It must touch the upper and lower eyelids leaving only sclera (the white part) to be visible to the left and right side of the eye. There shouldn’t be sclera on the lower or upper part of the iris. Subsequently, the iris can’t be upwards or downwards but centered! When the iris is properly positioned, it indicates a balanced and healthy nervous system.
When sclera shows below or above the iris, Japanese culture calls it “Sanpaku Eyes” or the “Three Whites”. Sanpaku is common amongst those who are ill and/or exhausted. It is most severe among those who are gravely ill and approaching death.
According to ancient Japanese medecine, balanced eyes, with the iris touching the upper and lower eyelids, reveal a balanced condition and sound judgment. Balanced eyes come from a balanced view of life and sound dietary habits, especially the consumption of whole cereal grains and fresh vegetables.
“Three Whites” is divided into two types : Yin Sanpaku and Yang Sanpaku. Three whites show that a person’s nervous system is seriously imbalanced. Such a person’s mind, body, and spirit are out of harmony with the larger forces of the cosmos. The person’s intuition is off; his or her ability to assess people and situations is weak.
Yin Sanpaku is when the white part shows below the iris. It is very common among drug addicts. With Yin Sanpaku, the iris floats upwards, revealing sclera below it.
If the white shows below the iris, the condition is yin, indicating that the dangers come from outside. A person with yin sanpaku eyes will place himself or herself in dangerous or threatening situations unwittingly- and may not survive. Individuals with Yin Sanpaku tend to have a young and tragic death.
Yin sanpaku, or white showing below the iris, is the result of excessive intake of yin substances, such as sugar, refined grains, alcohol, and medical drugs.
Yang Sanpaku is the opposite. The sclera shows above the iris. The iris floats downwards, towards the lower eyelid, revealing sclera at the top of the eye, below the upper eyelid.
If the white shows above, the condition is yang, and the danger comes from within. A person with yang sanpaku eyes is extremely violent, filled with rage, and likely poses a threat to himself and others. He may destroy himself, but may also take others with him.
Yang sanpaku, or white showing above the iris, comes from excessive intake of meat, salt, and hard cheeses, and from indulgence in violence. Yang sanpaku shows a character that is self-centred and bent on fulfilling its own ambition, something without regard for the cost.
