Music | Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, 50, has died in Bogotá, where the American alternative rock band was due to perform at the Estéreo Picnic festival, the group announced. “The Foo Fighters family is devastated. for the tragic and premature disappearance of our dear Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughs will live on with us forever.”
“Our hearts go out to the wife, children and family,” the band added, asking that the family’s privacy be respected.
According to local media, the musician, who joined the band in 1997, was found dead in the hotel room where the band is staying in Bogotá.
The group was one of the highlights of the festival, with a performance scheduled for Friday night, with Hawkins’ death announced an hour before they took the stage.
The drummer grew up in Laguna Beach, California, where he began studying music.
